March Madness: Sugary16

March 24, 2022

March Madness bounces on to the Sweet 16.

(or the Sugary 16 as I like to say)

After a few days back on campus, these “student” athletes (who can now get NIL deals) are back on the court and lines are up to break down.

Momentum and routines have changed again.

Who’s got the inside scoop?

Let’s get into it!

Mr. Yours Truly, a.k.a. the genius who brought you Never Bet the Farm (Part 1 & Part 2), Mr. SportsKnowItAll, is going with this sugar-coated 6-game parlay of a tasty treat in March Madness.

March Madness – Sugary 16 Action:

Houston +1.5 vs Arizona
Villanova -5 vs Michigan
UCLA -2.5 vs North Carolina
Kansas -7.5 vs Providence
St. Peter’s +12.5 vs Purdue
Texas Tech -1 vs Duke

Insights:

Houston is my sleeper of the tournament.

(not Cinderella — we’ll get to St. Peter’s in a minute)

Until Houston upset Arizona that is…

Don’t get me wrong.

Arizona has been a great team all year, and they finished so strong in the last tournament game despite struggling to start.

But I don’t think that will happen against the Cougars.

As long as Houston can stay out of foul trouble, look for the upset.

You heard it here first!

This tournament has seemingly opened up for Villanova as they take on the #11 seed Michigan Wolverines. I’ve seen a lot of “talking-heads” on TV saying something about Michigan and momentum. Don’t believe the hype.

Look for the Wildcats to cover fairly easily!

I’ve seen similar things being said about North Carolina too. Seems sketchy to me. Like Huggins said as a guest analyst last week, that little guy at UCLA does a good job of getting his team open for good shots. Never said I liked the little guy (do love pointing out his shortness), but Mick Cronin has a team of tournament-tested players. Look for UCLA to win by a three at least!

Providence has been shooting better-than-usual from three in March Madness so far. Will that keep up against Kansas? I don’t see it happening in this game! Shooters can cool off during the break and come back to earth. Look for Kansas to cover with a double-digit victory!

Why are the oddsmakers trying to muscle St. Peter’s?

St. Peter's University located in Jersey City is the Giant Killer so far of March Madness. Head Coach Shaheen Holloway breaks it down. . .

"I got guys from New Jersey and New York City. You think we scared of anything?"

I’m a believer in their toughness. Look for St. Peter’s to cover at least!

Texas Tech is unlike any team Duke has played this year, especially when it comes to game-style and bench-play. They come at you in waves. It can be relentless! They should tire out the talented starters for the Blue Devils. It’ll be a difference-maker. Look for Texas Tech to win and happy retirement to Coach K!

As you probably should realize by now, if you’re not out here sleeping on the job (again), I’m using the nifty Barstool Sportsbook & Casino App to calculate and bet accordingly. It helps illustrate how a merger $10 down should bounce back to me with a substantially sweet $495.93.

The app makes it all so easy! Badda-bing, Badda-boom!

Don’t even have to step into the casino if you want.

EASIEST MONEY!

Now hurry up and get to it before you fill up on sweets.

And yes, naps are appropriate in March Madness. Sugar crashes and all.

Just remember all you wannabes…

Don’t bet any more than you’re willing to lose, and never bet the farm.
