Time to short Dream Team odds?

July 20, 2021

Like nearly every year before, the Dream Team is an overwhelming favorite for gold in Tokyo.

But is this U.S. Men’s Olympic team still as likely as the odds say — in arguably the most unpredictable Olympics of all time?

Team USA has won Olympic gold in the previous three events and five of the last six, after losing in the 2004 Athens semifinals. And we all know the nearly flawless record for the Dream Team before that, so the odds of picking anybody else is still a true longshot. Check it out for yourself.

And being on top of the odds table is no surprise.

Other teams don’t compare with the Americans on paper (that’s what the odds say). Their performance in Las Vegas looked a little less confident though.

Nigeria basketball got revenge against the U.S. last weekend, and that’s the same country the USA dominated by 83 points in the 2012 London Olympics. Australia also bested the Dream Team in Vegas, before Team USA ended the schedule with back-to-back wins over Argentina and Spain. Does that mean all is still right?

The odds say so… But with two new international losses and all the uncertainties surrounding Covid-19 in Toyko.

What do you think?
