Silver Linings NBA Playbook

June 17, 2017

Is there a silver lining to this past NBA season?

Much to my surprise, yes!

It was incredibly boring, but there was one great thing that happened from the Golden State Warriors winning the 2017 NBA Finals…

Steve Nash finally gets a ring!

It came as a total surprise to me, but apparently, Nash has been working as a player development coach for the Warriors this season. Therefore, he receives a ring for being a part of the championship organization.

Karl Malone and Steve Nash are the only two-time MVPs without a NBA title, but Nash has never even made it to the Finals. No matter the team, Nash lost in the Western Conference finals during the 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2010 seasons.

Having said that, Steve was probably playing against the referees in that 2007 series. That’s one of those questionable series where Tim Donaghy might have shaved points for the NBA or mob “allegedly”.

His best opportunity probably came in 2010 when the Phoenix Suns faced the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. It looked like the Suns were Finals-bound until the team lost a nailbiter in Game 5 (falling down 2-3 in the series).

Golden State must love handing out rings because they’re also giving a championship ring to Jose Calderon for his 2 hours worth of work back in March.

Regardless, it’s great to see Nash receiving a ring finally (even if it’s as a consultant).

Bonus silver lining…

After retiring from the NBA at the end of the 2016 season, former Phoenix Suns forwards Amar’e Stoudemire decided to finish his career in Israel as a player/partial owner for the Hapoel Jerusalem.

He lead the team to the title in the Israeli Basketball Premier League. Sounds like he has fans in Israel…

It’s great to see a couple former Suns winning rings. That’s by far the best thing that happened during the 2017 basketball season.

Congrats you two!
