Teaching My GF Sports #4: Thanks 4 Nothin’ NBA

June 15, 2017

Hello bromigos & girlitos…

This might seem like a rant because it is…

Thanks 4 Nothin’ NBA…

This was certainly NOT the season we all deserved.

I’m not only talking about the regular season; nor just the playoffs. The whole season felt like a waste. And what was the fall out?

I had to compromise myself… But I don’t want to talk about it…

‘Long time no post, what’s going on?’

Answer: Absolutely nothing!

Whether it was healthy superstars resting during the regular season or the Warriors’ wire-to-wire dominance, the 2017 season sucked. There has been no good news to share from the NBA (unless you live in the Golden State area).

I’m sorry, but I’m not — because it’s true.

I held out the slightly hope for the Finals matchup (which SHOULD have been AMAZING, like Mr. T in Rocky III), but that series was the biggest letdown of all. Well… Except for having to watch the dress show instead.

See, my girlfriend is sweet and lets me hijack her TV to watch sports (because she’s a sucker for my company, which is her weakness), but it’s typically after I explain an elaborate story on why any particular game is the most important ever. And don’t get me wrong, I’m a master of B.S.

However, I struggled to convince her of anything this NBA Finals, especially after the first half of Game 3.

Get this… She RARELY listens to me, but for some unexplainable reason, she remembers that no team has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit in a NBA playoff series. That was her final reason on why we didn’t need to watch the series anymore. I was flabbergasted…

And conflicted…

On one hand, she’s really listening 🙂 She learned that from me.

I know… I’m shocked too.

All my hard work and constant lecturing… It’s starting to pay off.

I had my doubts, but here’s the proof. WoW…

However, her new-found sports knowledge is working against me in this case.

And think of the odds…

She struggles remembering my birthday (although admittedly, I rely on FB for hers), but she somehow remembers an obscure sports fact I told her a whole year ago. So… What did we do?

We watched Say Yes to the Dress :-/

And why does the wife-to-be ALWAYS says ‘yes’ to the dress right before the episode ends?

All the dresses look the same, except some show cleavage and other don’t as much.

They’re all the same color, length and none are the RIGHT ONE — until the two minute commercial break.

It’s better clock management than any football coach, except maybe for one of the devils — Belichick, Carroll or Saban.

I digress… I’m NOT angry with the show. I’m just DISAPPOINTED with the NBA.

I know… I know… I should probably take some blame too…

But I won’t…

I’m definitely not proud of my actions. That’s for sure…

But I lacked the fight.

Just like the Cavs.
